Mustang Wrestling Off to Strong Start to 2019-20 Season

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity wrestling team is off to a strong start to the 2019-20 season after two meets.

Last Saturday, Nov. 16, Mount Vernon traveled to Greater Atlanta Christian to participate in the Spartan Classic. Other teams in attendance included Blessed Trinity, Bob Jones (AL), Jackson, Lumpkin Co., Morgan Co., North Atlanta, Walton, and Westminster.

The Mustangs placed three wrestlers in the top four: Dylan Clemmons -106 lb. (4th place), Charlie Hale - 152 lb. (4th place), and James Crandall - 170 lb. (4th place).

Most recently, Mount Vernon traveled to Westminster to get some early season match-ups with the Wildcats and Walker Wolverines on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Scoring varsity wins in their first match since returning from football were: Steven Soteres, Parker Carman and Jonathan Hammond.

Others scoring varsity points were Hale and Stephen Moseley.

Junior Varsity wins included William House, Liam O'Toole, Sam Worth and William McCallum.

The Mustangs return to the mat after the Thanksgiving Break, competing at Blessed Trinity on Friday, Dec. 6.

Matches are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
