ATLANTA - Saturday, Feb. 1, was a special day for the Mount Vernon boys basketball program.
The 8th Grade and 5/6 Grade Boys teams defeated their competition to earn league titles for the 2019-20 season.
The 8th Grade Boys defeated King's Ridge 50-34 en route to the 2020 Metro-10 A Boys Basketball Championship.
The Mustangs, who finished the season 13-0, lead 17-8 at the end of the first quarter and 28-20 at halftime.
A dominant third period, Mount Vernon outscored King's Ridge 13-4 to take a commanding lead 41-24 lead into the final period.
Jack Landers led the Mustangs with 16 points.
Jonathan Gallinaro and Sam Nazarian each finished with 11 points as well.
The 5/6 Boys won twice on Saturday to capture the Wesleyan League Championship.
The Mustangs defeated Wesleyan Green in the semifinals 45-43 before taking down Wesleyan White 46-30 in the Championship game to earn the title.
Like the 8th Grade, the 5/6 Mustangs finished the season undefeated at 8-0.
