Mustangs Have Strong Showing at Area Traditionals

JOHNS CREEK - The Mount Vernon varsity wrestling team had a strong showing on Saturday, Feb. 1, competing in the Area Traditionals at Mt. Pisgah.

"We brought 11 wrestlers today to Area, " Head Coach Ryan Welch said. "Nine will advance to sectionals as top four medalists. The other two placed fifth and will advance as alternates.

Below are the results from Saturday's tournament:

-Liam O'Toole 4th (138 lb.)
-Parker Carman 4th (145 lb.)
-Steven Soteres 3rd (160 lb.)
-James Crandall 2nd (170 lb.)
-Jonathan Hammond 2nd (220lb.)
-Erik Dodder 1st (182lb.)

Others that punched their ticket to Sectionals were Dylan Clemons, Steven Soteres, and Bijan Nikain.

The Mustangs are back on the mat on Friday, Feb. 7 at the GHSA Sectionals in Bremen, Ga.
