Varsity Boys Basketball Picks Up Two Wins to Close Out Regular Season, Region Tournament Up Next

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity boys basketball team picked up two wins over the weekend, defeating the Atlanta International School Eagles 71-25 on Friday, Jan. 31 on Senior Night before taking down the Fulton Leadership Academy Gryphons 69-24 on Saturday, Feb. 1 on the road.

Against the Eagles, the Mustangs led 8-4 at the end of the first quarter and outscored Atlanta International 27-7 for a commanding 35-11 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Mustangs continued their aggressive approach, limiting the Eagles to 14 points while scoring 36 points.

Alex Morge led the team in scoring with 24 points, including eight made 3-pointers.

Chase Clemmons totaled eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists while teammate Brenden Wicker had six points, two rebounds and two steals.

In Saturday's victory against Fulton Leadership, the Mustangs were led by three players in double figures: Clemmons (14), Syncere Harris (12 points and 10 steals), and Brenden Wicker (11).

Jordan Wicker led the team with 10 rebounds as well.

The Mustangs are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the second round of the Region 5-1A Tournament.

The Mustangs will play the winner of Galloway/AIS at 5:00 p.m. at Galloway on Tuesday.
