ATLANTA - The awards continue to come in for Mount Vernon athletes as the seasons come and go!

Six members of the Mount Vernon basketball program have been named to the 2019-20 All-Region 5-1A Team.

The varsity girls totaled one All-Region member while the varsity boys put five on the list.

Below is the information on all of the All-Region 5-1A players:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Sr. Katieanne Peterson
-All-Region First Team
-15 ppg
-3 rpg
-2 apg
-Joined the 1000 point club this season on Jan. 4, 2020.
-Three games with 20+ points and one game with 30+ points.

"Katieanne is the heart and soul of our team," Head Coach Rita Williams said. "She has been a selfless captain the past three seasons. She has been our leading scorer in 18 of our 19 games. With double teams and box and defenses thrown at her, she still manages to carry the load for our team and average 15 points per game."

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jr. Jordan Wicker
-All-Region First Team
-13.3 ppg
-7.2 rpg

"Jordan has contributed consistently this season for our team but has been on a tear as of late," Head Coach Tarrik Mabon said. "In the past few games, Jordan tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds vs. Wesleyan, 20 points and seven rebounds vs. St. Pius, and 17 points and nine rebounds vs. Galloway. With our lack of size, Jordan's rebounding ability has helped us be more competitive this season. Jordan was injured all Summer and Fall so that hampered his start a little. He is finally starting to hit full stride which makes us a more dynamic team."

Fr. Chase Clemmons
-All-Region Second Team
-14.1 ppg
-3.7 rpg
-2.7 apg
-2 spg

"Chase has had a great freshman year campaign," Mabon said. "He missed four games due to an ankle injury but in the 16 games he has played, he has been our leading scorer with breakout games vs 5A Riverwood (30 points), 7A Brookwood (26 points), 4A Marist School (21 points) and 4A St. Pius (18 points). He is a great kid. Humble. Dedicated. He has been willing to learn the game the right way by being coachable and a great teammate."

Sr. Alex Morge
-All-Region Honorable Mention
-10.6 ppg
-5.1 rpg

"(Alex) Morge is our team captain. He has been in our program since 7th Grade and coaching him the last three years has been humbling for me," Mabon said. "With this new generation, it is hard to find kids who are completely dedicated to the grind. Morge has been through great seasons and tough seasons! He has an offer from LaGrange College. He is a high character kid that can shoot the three really well. He is top three in the region in made 3-pointers."

Soph. Syncere Harris
-All-Region Honorable Mention
-7.8 ppg
-2.7 rpg
-4.7 apg
-2.7 spg

"Syncere is the heart and soul of our team hands down," Mabon said "Without him I have no idea where we would be. There have been several games where he simply took over the game. He had 13 steals against 5A Chamblee. He led our comeback victory over 6A Forest Park. He led our charge vs. Galloway with 13 points and seven assists. Against Box Elder (Utah) he had 10 points, 10 assists and five rebounds. He is special. We are excited to have him for the next two years."

Jr. Andrew Douglas
-All-Region Honorable Mention
-5.9 ppg
-2.5 rpg
-1.4 apg
-1.7 spg

"Andrew is one of the top football players in the state of Georgia," Mabon said. "However, he has been just as instrumental in our success this season. He has been our defensive juggernaut in every single game guarding the other teams' best player. What has been most impressive is his improvement on the offensive end. His highlighted games were 15 points vs. Holy Innocents and 14 points vs. 6A Forest Park. He has had a fantastic junior campaign!"
