Girls Soccer Opens 2020 Campaign with 5-3 Victory Over King's Ridge

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity girls soccer team opened the 2020 season on the right foot on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 11, defeating the King's Ridge Tigers 5-3 at the Upper Campus Soccer Field.

The Mustangs led 3-1 at intermission.

Audrey O'Toole scored two of her four goals in the first half with assists coming from Gracie Hudgins and Ruby Turner.

Hudgins also knocked in a goal in the first half off an assist from Taylor Keller.

In the second half, the Mustangs added two goals to go up 5-1 before allowing two goals late in the second period to the Tigers.

O'Toole scored both goals in the second half for Mount Vernon with one assisted by Grace Keller.

Christine Turnbull picked up the win in goal for the Mustangs corralling 12 saves.

The Mustangs (1-0) return to the pitch on Thursday, Feb. 13, traveling to Strong Rock in Locust Grove, Ga.

Kickoff against the Patriots is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
