ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team pushed its winning streak to three games on Thursday afternoon, August 20, defeating the North Cobb Christian Eagles 10-0 in a rain-shortened four inning contest at the Upper Campus Softball Field.
Mount Vernon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Reagan Hickey scored on a passed ball followed by a Jane Holliday single to plate Sarah Schab.
The Mustangs added three more runs in the bottom of the second frame to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
Whitney Disman singled home Ruby Burnett, Whitney Dishman came around to score on a passed ball and Hickey doubled to bring home Savanna Messner.
After a scoreless third, the Mustangs put the game out of reach for good, scoring five runs to lead 10-0.
Messner scored on a passed ball, Hickey singled to score Bella Dishman and then came home on a fielding error. Holliday doubled home Ellie Stalzer followed by a Grace Westmoreland single to score Holliday.
Westmoreland picked up the win in the circle for Mount Vernon.
The righty tossed four innings, giving up just one hit while striking out six batters.
Hickey and Westmoreland each finished 2-for-3 with two RBI's to lead the Mustang offense as well.
Mount Vernon returns to the diamond on Tuesday, August 25, traveling to take on Fellowship Christian.
First pitch against the Paladins is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Roswell, Ga.
