Mustangs Split Weekend Action with Westminster and St. Pius

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team split its weekend round-robin-tournament, defeating the Westmisnter Wildcats 6-1 followed by a 7-2 loss to the St. Pius GoldenLions on Saturday, Sept. 12.

In the first game of the day against Westminster, Mount Vernon got things moving in the second inning on a Sarah Schab RBI double.

Schab earned the win for Mount Vernon as well, tossing seven innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out eight batters.

Mount Vernon racked up seven hits on the day with Lauren Dove and Grace Westmoreland each managing multiple hits.

Schab, Dove and Jane Holliday each recorded one RBI for Mount Vernon as well.

In the second game of the day, the Mustang bats were held to just two runs, falling 7-2 to St. Pius.

Grace Westmoreland took the loss for Mount Vernon.

The righty surrendered five runs on three hits over four and a third innings while striking out four batters.

Holliday picked up one RBI in the loss as well.

Mount Vernon (8-1) returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 15, traveling to North Cobb Christian.

First pitch against the Eagles is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Kennesaw, GA.
