Mustangs Top Mt. Paran Eagles on the Road 17-0 En Route to First Victory

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity football team picked its first victory of the 2020 campaign on Friday night, Sept. 18, shutting out the Mt. Paran Christian Eagles 17-0 at Catherine Steele Sewell Stadium.

Mount Vernon scored on the second play from scrimmage when Blake Kytle connected with Andrew Douglas on a 58-yard screen pass for a touchdown.

William Lavender made the PAT to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead with 11:18 to play in the first quarter.

After trading possessions for much of the half, the Mustangs got on the board again with 5:09 to play in the second quarter when Lavender connected on a 37-yard field goal to give the Mustangs a 10-0 lead.

After a scoreless third period and another back and forth second half, Mount Vernon was able to put the game away for good with 3:27 to play in the contest.

Liam O'Toole ran in a 15-yard touchdown, Lavender made the PAT and the Mustangs secured the first win of the season.

Kytle finished the game 19-for-27 with 300 yards passing. He now has over 900 yards passing through the first three games of the season.

Douglas paced the Mustangs in receiving, hauling in seven catches for 116 yards and one touchdown.

The Mustangs (1-2) are off on Friday, Sept. 25 and will return to action on Friday, Oct. 2, hosting Athens Christian.

Kickoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon's Upper Campus Stadium Field.
