Mustangs Take Down Holy Innocents on the road 9-2 to take season series

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team defeated rival Holy Innocents 9-2 on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 23, taking the season series 2-0 after a victory in late August.

In Tuesday's contest, the bats came alive, scoring nine runs on 13 hits.

After two scoreless innings, the Mustangs put up six runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead for good.

Bella Dishman, Grace Westmoreland, Sarah Schab, Reagan Hickey, Whitney Dishman, and Frances Hunt all moved runners across the plate with RBI's in the inning.

After a scoreless fourth, the Mustangs added three more runs to take a 9-0 lead in the fifth inning.

Bella Dishman cleared the bases with a double to score Whitney Dishman, Frances Hunt and Savanna Messner.

The Bears put two runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run home run from Raven Webb to bring the score to 9-2.

Both teams failed to score in the last two innings.

Sarah Schab (5-0) picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs.

The lone senior tossed a complete game, while scattering five hits and striking out eight batters.

The Mustangs (10-1) return to action on Thursday, Oct. 1, hosting Mt. Paran Christian School.

First pitch against the Eagles is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Upper Campus Softball Field.
