Mustangs Come Up Short at George Walton Academy, 39-13

MONROE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity football team saw its two-game winning streak snapped on Friday night, Oct. 9, falling to the George Walton Academy Bulldogs 39-13.

The Bulldogs led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Mustangs 21-7 to take a 28-7 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs won the third quarter 12-6. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth period.

Senior quarterback Blake Kytle was 14-for-34 with 225 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Jack Mette led the Mustangs in receiving, hauling in three catches for 126 yards and one touchdown.

The Mustangs (2-3) return to action on Friday afternoon, Oct. 16, hosting Loganville Christian.

The Lions (1-4) will be fresh off of a 'bye' week after falling to Holy Innocents on Oct. 2.

Kickoff for Friday's contest against the Lions is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Mount Vernon's Upper Campus Stadium Field.
