ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team completed its season sweep of the North Atlanta Warriors on Tuesday afternoon, claiming a 12-4 victory in six innings at the Upper Campus Softball Field on Senior Night.

After allowing three runs in the top of the first inning, the Mustangs were forced to battle back throughout much of the contest.

The Mustangs got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Reagan Hickey blasted a solo home run to center make it a 3-1 deficit.

Later in the inning, the Mustangs cut the lead to one when Bella Dishman doubled home Kendall Slayden.

Mount Vernon tied the game and took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Grace Westmoreland hit a sacrifice fly to center field, Jane Holliday singled home Savanna Messner, Sarah Schab singled to score Holliday, and Whitney Dishman singled to plate Lauren Dove and Ruby Burnett for a 7-3 Mustang advantage.

The Warriors added a run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Mustangs answered back in the bottom half when Bella Dishman singled to score Messner for an 8-4 lead.

Mount Vernon added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach and bring the run rule into effect.

Sarah Schab picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs.

The lone senior tossed six innings, allowed four runs (one earned) while racking up nine strikeouts.

The Mustangs return to the diamond on Wednesday, Oct. 14, traveling to Riverwood.
