Mustangs Take Road Contest at Riverwood, 10-4

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team scored six runs in the fourth inning on its way to a 10-4 victory over the Riverwood Raiders on Wednesday night, Oct. 14.

The offense in the fourth inning was led by Whitney Dishman, Savanna Messner, Kendall Slayden, and Jane Holliday, all driving in runs.

Mount Vernon scored in the first inning on a Grace Westmoreland line out, scoring one run.

The Mustangs notched six runs in the fourth inning and put the pressure on Riverwood, lead by singles from Dishman, Slayden, and Holliday and a double by Messner.

Westmoreland took the win for the Mustangs in the circle.

The freshman tossed seven innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out 14 batters.

Jaden James took the loss in the circle for Riverwood. James lasted seven innings, allowing 14 hits and ten runs while striking out six.

Mount Vernon collected 14 hits. Messner, Reagan Hickey, Slayden, Holliday, and Bella Dishman each racked up multiple hits for the Mustangs. Messner went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Mustangs in hits.

Mount Vernon (14-3) returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 15, taking on Christian Heritage to close out the regular season.

The Mustangs defeated the Lions 13-5 back on the Sept. 3 at home.

Thursday's contest is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Dalton, Ga.
