GIRLS TENNIS DEFEATS HEBRON CHRISTIAN 3-1 IN REGION TOURNAMENT CONSOLATION TO ADVANCE TO GHSA STATE TOURNAMENT

Girls Tennis Defeats Hebron Christian 3-1 in Region Tournament Consolation to Advance to GHSA State Tournament

PEACHTREE CORNERS , Ga - For the first time since 2016, the Mount Vernon varsity girls tennis team is moving on to the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament.

The Mustangs punched their ticket to the postseason after a 3-1 victory over the Hebron Christian Lions at Wesleyan in the Region Tournament Consolation on Thursday afternoon, April 16.

"I am so proud of these girls for their tenacity and the composure the showed during the Area Tournament," Head Coach Sheldon Staples said. "I think their success means more in light of the challenges of this year. They pulled off some gritty wins this week and are excited to continue to compete in the State Tournament!"

Sofia Tur won Mount Vernon's match at no. 1 singles with scores of 6-1/1-6/6-2.

The Mustangs sealed the deal with both doubles teams earning victories.

No. 1 doubles Ellie Stalzer and Rory Hansen won 7-6/6-4 and no. 2 doubles Ashley Burke and Kendall Slayden were victorious 6-2/6-3.

Mount Venron will be the no. 3 seed from Region 5-1A and will travel to Prince Avenue, the no. 2 seed from Region 8-1A, on Tuesday, April 20.

The time of the match will be announced in the coming days.
