Girls and Boys Golf Qualify For State after 3rd Place Finishes at 1A Private Area-4 Tournament

DACULA, Ga. - Thursday, May 6, was a day to remember for the varsity girls and boys golf teams.

Both squads finished third in the 1A Private Area-4 Golf Tournament at Hamilton Mill Golf Club.

The finish was good enough to extend the season as both Mustang squads qualified for the GHSA 1A Private State Championship on May 17-18 at Heritage Golf Links.

In the girls tournament, the Mustangs were led by the 91 of Alenia Poulos and 116 from Avery Grace Messner for a team score of 207.

Katie Robinson also shot a 127 for the Mustangs.

In the boys tournament, the Mustangs were led by Paxton Scherger's 75.

Bryce Cumming finished with an 83, while William Brown and Zack Van Putten each carded an 84 to bring Mount Vernon's team score to 326.

The Mustangs finished just four strokes behind Area Champion Holy Innocents (322) and one stroke behind runner-up Wesleyan (325).
