ATLANTA – The Mount Vernon Athletic Department and Athletic Director Brad Dehem are pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Brown to Head Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country Coach.

“We are excited about Jennifer leading our cross country programs at Mount Vernon,” Athletic Director Brad Dehem said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the sport and will follow our school’s mission while positively impacting our student-athletes.”

Brown is no stranger to running cross country, competing in grades 6-12 while at Holy Innocents.

Brown returned in 2004 to Holy Innocents to help coach cross country and track and field from 2004-2009.

Prior to taking the helm at Mount Vernon, Brown served as a coach at the middle school level for the Mustangs.

“I want to inspire athletes to train hard, leave nothing at the finish and have fun,” Brown said.

After both squads qualified for state for the first time in program history in 2020, Brown has set lofty goals for the Mustangs in 2021 and beyond.

“We want to build a comprehensive program that teaches technique, racing strategies, the mind-body connection, and most of all, grit,” Brown said.

“We also want to build a team of athletes who recognize their individual worth to the team and understand that there is no ‘I’ in team,” Brown added. “People think cross country is an individual sport and it's not. It's a team sport made up of individuals who lift one another up.”
