Mustangs Sweep Pace and Riverwood in 2021 Volleyball Home Opener

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon volleyball team was in action on Thursday afternoon, hosting the Pace Academy Knights and Riverwood Raiders for the 2021 home opener.

The Mustangs came away victorious is both tries, knocking off the Knights in a tight three-game set 2-1 followed by a 2-0 victory over Riverwood.

Against Pace the Mustangs fell 25-10 in the first set before rallying to win the final two sets 25-20 and 15-6.

Mount Vernon defeated Riverwood in two sets (25-20, 25-20) as well.

Sophia Van Name led the Mustangs with 14 kills while teammate Maggie Sims totaled 10.

With the victories, the Mustangs have won three of their last five matches and currently own a three-game winning streak.

Mount Vernon returns to the court on Thursday, Sept. traveling to the Walker School for two matches.

First serve against Walker is scheduled for 5 p.m. followed by a neutral site contest against Mt. Pisgah at 6 p.m.
