ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon middle school programs are having strong starts to the Fall 2021 campaign.

Below are the middle school sports that are in action and a quick update on where they stand.












CROSS COUNTRY - On Saturday, Sept. 11, the middle school boys and girls cross country runners combined scores to win the first-place trophy out of eight competing teams at HIES' Bornholm/Null Memorial.

Fifty Mount Vernon runners beat their goal times on the two-mile course; the top five time improvements came from Rigby Clark, Ben and Loulee Easterlin, Katie Walsh, and Dylan Jonas. This is the second consecutive race won by the middle school teams.

5/6 FOOTBALL - The Mustangs lost their season opener at Mt. Paran 36-6 on Wednesday, Sept. 8. Mount Vernon got a late touchdown from Oliver Johnson.

7/8 FOOTBALL - The Mustangs are currently 1-1 in Metro-10 play. Mount Vernon opened the season with an 18-6 victory at North Cobb Christian on Thursday, August 26.

Mount Vernon fell last week at St. Francis and will return to action for their first home game on Thursday, Sept. 16 against Mt.Paran at 3:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL - The Mustangs are 5-0 on the young season and 3-0 in league play with victories over St. Francis (2-0), Mt. Pisgah (12-3), and Mt. Bethel (8-0).

The Mustangs have outscored opponents 38-10 on the season.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BLUE VOLLEYBALL - The Mustangs are 5-1 on the season with league wins over King's Ridge, Whitefield and Fellowship. All league wins have been shutouts.

MIDDLE SCHOOL WHITE VOLLEYBALL - The Mustangs are 4-2 this season with league victories over King's Ridge, Whitefield and Fellowship. All league wins have been shutouts.
