ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity football team picked up its third victory in as many tries on Friday afternoon, Sept. 24, defeating the George Walton Academy Bulldogs in convincing fashion 42-0 at the Upper Campus Stadium Field.

The win is the first victory for the Mustangs over George Walton in program history.

The Mustangs led 14-0 at halftime, with both touchdowns coming from Jonathan Gallinaro on passes from Luke Barnes.

In the second half, the Mustangs opened the flood gates, scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter.

Liam O'Toole ran for a touchdown, Will Palmer returned a Bulldog interception for a score and Barnes connected with Jack Mette for a commanding 35-0 lead by the fourth quarter.

The final Mustang score came in the fourth quarter on a Sam Hodges rush.

Barnes finished the game 11-for-17 under center with 211 yards and three touchdowns.

The senior averaged nearly 20 yards per completion (19.2) as well.

Gallinaro led the squad in receiving with 155 yards on seven catches with two touchdowns.

The Mustangs (3-2) return to the field on Friday, Oct. 1, traveling to Loganville Christian Academy.

Kickoff against the Lions is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Hawkins Field.
