Softball Tops Darlington Tigers on Senior Night, 15-1

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team kept to its winning ways on Tuesday, Sept. 28, defeating the Darlington Tigers 15-1 in four innings on Senior Night at Mustang Park.

Mount Vernon scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, nine more in the second and three in the third to take the victory in convincing fashion.

Kendall Slayden and Reagan Hickey paced the Mustangs with four RBI's each.

Grace Westmoreland and Jane Holliday each had two RBI's in the victory as well.

Five Mustangs had multi-hit games: Slayden (3), Savanna Messner (3), Bella Dishman (2), Reagan Hickey (2), Holliday (2) and Frances Hunt (2).

The Mustangs out-hit the Tigers 15-1 on the day.

Reese Hickey picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs.

The right tossed four innings, allowed one earned run and struck out eight batters.

With the victory, the Mustangs have now won six straight games and have outscored their opposition 59-18.

Prior to the game, all five seniors - Kate Christian, Bella Dishman, Jane Holliday, Savanna Messner and Kendall Slayden - were honored in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Night.

The Mustangs (17-2) return to the diamond on Wednesday, Sept. 29, traveling to Pace Academy.

First pitch against the Knights is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Riverview Athletic Complex.
