Mustang Bats Stay Hot in 18-0 Victory Over Pace Academy Knights

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity softball team continued its winning ways on Wednesday, Sept. 29, clobbering the Pace Academy Knights 18-0 in four innings at the Riverview Athletic Complex.

Mount Vernon totaled 15 hits in the winning bid.

Five Mustangs finished with a multi-hit game: Bella Dishman (3), Kennedy Reynolds (2), Grace Westmoreland (2), Savanna Messner (2), and Kendall Slayden (2).

Mount Vernon jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

After a scoreless second frame, the Mustang bats came to life in a big way scoring eight runs in the third and seven more in the fourth to bring the run-rule into effect.

Reagan Hickey led the team with four RBI's, all coming on a grand slam in the top of the fourth inning.

Messner also hit a home run, a two-run shot in the top of the first inning.

Dishman, Messner and Slayden each had three RBI's as well.

Westmoreland picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs.

The righty tossed four innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven batters.

The Mustangs (18-2), winners of seven straight, return to the diamond on Tuesday, Oct. 5, taking on Galloway on the road.

First pitch against the Scots is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Warren Field.
