Mustangs Pick Up Fourth Straight Win with 38-3 Victory at Loganville Christian

LOGANVILLE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity football team picked up its fourth straight victory on Friday night, Oct. 1, knocking off the Loganville Christian Lions 38-3 at Hawkins Field.

Mount Vernon scored early and often, posting 21 points in the first quarter.

The Mustangs got a rushing touchdown from Liam O'Toole, and receptions by Jack Mette and Edward Hires in the first quarter.

William Lavender was perfect on all PAT's for a commanding 21-0 lead.

The Mustangs added a second quarter touchdown with 5:32 to play in the second quarter when Spencer Corley rushed in a three-yard score.

Lavender made the point after for a 28-0 lead for the Mustangs at halftime.

Mount Vernon posted 10 more points in the second half while allowing the Lions to just one field goal.

Lavender made a 27-yard field goal with 6:54 to play in the game followed by a Ben Spitz 32-yard touchdown reception with 2:10 remaining in the contest.

Senior quarterback Luke Barnes finished 10-for-13 with 225 yards and two touchdowns.

Jonathan Gallinaro paced the Mustangs in receiving with 109 yards on five catches.

Mette finished with 94 yards receiving as well.

The Mustangs have posted 35 or more points during their current four-game winning streak.

Mount Vernon has outscored opponents 140-31 during that same time frame as well.

The Mustangs (4-2) return to action on Friday, Oct. 8, traveling to Hebron Christian to open Region 5-1A play.

Kickoff again the Lions is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Burlingame Field at Lions Stadium in Dacula, Ga.
