Girls and Boys Basketball Start 2021-22 Season with Weekend Victories

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity girls and boys started the 2021-22 season on the right foot over the weekend.

On Friday night, Nov. 12, the varsity girls defeated the Westminster Wildcats 53-47.

The Mustangs led 15-6 at the end of the first quarter and led 24-15 at halftime.

After being outscored in the third period, Mount Vernon and Westminster each scored 15 points in the final period to send the Mustangs to victory.

MJ James led the Mustangs with 22 points, including two made 3-pointers.

Savannah Robinson-Holmes netted 12 points with two made 3-pointers while J'Bionna Robinson finished with seven points for Mount Vernon.

Wesminster's Stella Chartrand led all scorers with 25 points.

On Saturday, the Mustangs defeated Sandy Creek 56-44 at the Holy Innocents Time to Shine Showcase.

Mount Vernon (2-0) totaled three players in double figures: Robinson-Holmes 15, James 13, Robinson 13, and Greta Kaper 10.

On Saturday, the varsity boys were in action taking on Miller Grove and defeated Wolverines 63-50 at Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Syncere Harris led the team with in scoring 21 points while Dylan Holbrook posted 12 point and four rebounds.

Dennis Scott Jr. finished with 10 points while teammate Keith Williams posted 10 rebounds.

The varsity girls are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 16, traveling to Mt. Pisgah for a 6 p.m. contest against the Patriots in Johns Creek, Ga.

The varsity boys (1-0) are back on the court on Tuesday, Nov. 16 as well, traveling to ELCA for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off against the Chargers in McDonough, Ga.
