Mustangs Off to Strong Start to 2021-22 Swim and Dive Season

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity girls and boys swim and dive teams have been active, starting the season Nov. 12 at Wesleyan followed by a meet at St. Francis on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

"We had a small team attending, with a complement of 18 swimmers and two divers at our meet," Head Coach Kylie Stewart said. "Our athletes performed well and there were many improvements on previous years’ PRs and technique.

The Mustang swimmers and divers qualified for the GHSA State meet in a total of eight events as noted below:

Girl's 200 Medley Relay: Savanna Messner, Laney Whiting, Mary Fuentes, Mary Morgan Walker - 2:03.63

50 Free: Rylan Kruep 23.22, Sam Whiting 23.27, Savanna Messner - 26.15

100 Free: Sam Whiting - 51.65

100 Fly: Rylan Kruep - 55.99

100 Breast: Sam Whiting - 1:06.46

1M Diving: Kinsley Baker - 265.30

Mount Vernon overtook St. Francis on Tuesday afternoon in a close match, winning 98-95.

Mustang swimmers competed well, had a few PRs and many top three finishes highlighted below:

The Mustangs are back in action after the Thanksgiving holiday, swimming against Marist and Riverwood on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The meet is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at the Marist Aquatic Center.
