Girls Hoops Start New Year with 77-21 Victory Over Mt. Pisgah

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity girls basketball team kicked off the new year on the right foot, defeating the Mt. Pisgah Patriots 77-21 on Tuesday night, Jan. 4, at the Upper Campus Gym.

Mount Vernon jumped out to a 21-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Patriots 20-7 in the second period for a 41-11 advantage at halftime.

The Mustangs remained aggressive on the offensive and defensive end of the floor, winning the second half 36-10.

Four players were in double figures scoring for the Mustangs, paced by Savannah Robinson-Holmes' 29 points.

J'Bionna Robins added 19 points while Mia James and Leah Collins posted 13 and 12 points respectively.

Holmes led the Mustangs from behind the arc, connecting on five 3-pointers.

Riley Pickren led the Patriots in scoring with 10 points.

Mount Vernon continues to protect home court as well with a 5-1 record including winning three straight home games.

The Mustangs (7-4) return to the court on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 8, hosting the Riverwood Raiders in a non-region contest.

Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Upper Campus Gym.
