KENNESAW, Ga. - The no. 3 seeded Mount Vernon varsity girls tennis team upset the no. 2 seeded Mt. Paran Christian School Eagles 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon, April 20, at the Janas Tennis Complex.
The victory puts Mount Vernon in the GHSA Class-A Private Sweet-16 for the second consecutive season.
"I couldn't be more proud of the girls," Head Coach Sheldon Staples said. "The wins were decisive, and the losses were hard-fought and very close. As a coach, I can't ask for anything better than that. (I'm) so happy they earned a trip to the Sweet 16 for the second season in a row!"
Mount Vernon's singles win came from Daniela O'Leary and Annabel France in two sets.
O'Leary won her match in two sets 6-0/6-1 while France was victorious 6-2/6-1.
The Mustangs also got a doubles win from Ashley Burke/Reagan Wissman in two sets, 6-3/6-2 to seal the victory.
Mount Vernon will now travel to First Presbyterian Day School for the Sweet-16.
The Lady Vikings defeated Aquinas 3-0 in the first round to advance.
