COMMERCE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team snapped a quick one-game skid on Wednesday afternoon, August 17, rallying for six runs in the final two innings to take down the Commerce High School Tigers 8-4 in non-region action.

In the top of the sixth inning, Grace Westmoreland doubled to right field to score Priscilla Andrin to tie the game at 3-3.

The Mustangs took the lead for good later in the frame when Reese Hickey hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring home Westmoreland for a 4-3 advantage.

Lauren Dove doubled to right field to score Ruby Burnett to push the Mustang lead to 5-3.

After pulling within one run in the bottom of the sixth, the Mustang bats continued to stay hot, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Westmoreland doubled home Riley Blatt followed by a Reagan Hickey two-run blast over the left field fence to push the Mustang edge to 8-4.

Westmoreland retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory for Mount Vernon.

The righty tossed a complete game en route to her second win of the season, allowing for runs and five hits. She also tallied 11 strikeouts and walked just one batter.

Hickey homered twice for the Mustangs, her first a solo blast in the top of the second inning followed by her big fly in the sixth.

She leads the team in four-base knocks with five in six games played.

The Mustangs (5-1) are back on the diamond on Tuesday, August 23, traveling to Mt. Pisgah.

First pitch against the Patriots is slated for 4:30 p.m. in Johns Creek.
