ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team picked up its first victory of the 2022 campaign, defeating the Harvester Christian Hawks 37-6 on Friday afternoon, August 26, at Ron Hill Field.
The Mustangs led 20-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
Sam Nazarian connected with Jonathan Gallinaro for a 35-yard touchdown early in the period for a 7-0 lead.
On the ensuing drive from the Hawks, Chase Perry intercepted Harvester's pass and returned it to the house 50-yards to push the Mustang lead to 14-0.
The final score of the quarter came on a 40-yard Walker Warshaw rush to put Mount Vernon up 20-0 after the failed PAT attempt.
In the second quarter, the Mustangs put the game away for good scoring two touchdowns.
Nazarian connected with Nate Thomas for a 46-yard score followed by a Warshaw one-yard rush into the end zone.
In the third quarter, Nathan Webb hit a 27-yard field goal to push the Mustangs ahead 37-6.
Webb was 4-for-5 on PAT attempts on the day as well.
The Mustangs (1-1) return to the gridiron before the Labor Day holiday on Friday, Sept. 2, traveling to Mt. Paran Christian School.
Kickoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Mustangs defeated the Eagles 14-7 in their previous matchup in the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament on Nov. 13 of the 2021 season.
