WHITESBURG, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Cross Country Team took second place out of 13 teams at the Bob Blastow Meet on Saturday, August 27, at the McIntosh Nature Reserve.

Harris Flynn posted a personal best of 17:24 in the 5K event, taking third place overall.

Teammate Charlie Duerr crossed the finish line in 11th at 18:32 as well.

The Mustangs also got two more Top-20 finishes from Colin Maher (14th, 18:54) and Curran Jolly (15th, 18:58).

Jake Hodges placed in the Top-25 at 24th overall, clocking in a 19:30.

Mount Vernon totaled 65 points in their flight, finishing 47 points behind McIntosh High School.

"This was a great way to start our season," Head Coach Jennifer Brown said. "In our new region it's going to be tough but we are excited about this start and building on this."

The Varsity Girls ran in the JV race on Saturday.

Gracie Urban took 27th overall with a time of 24:59 while teammate Tess Frayaldenhoven finished 45th at 25:49.

The cross country teams are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 3, racing in the 10th Annual AT&T Panther Cross Country Invitational in Fayetteville, Ga.

Races are set to begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Heritage Christian Church Cross Country Course.
