Mustangs Pick Up Weekend Victory Over Decatur Bulldogs, 10-2

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team knocked off Decatur High School on Saturday, August 27, taking down the Bulldogs 10-2 in six innings at Mustang Park.

The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the first coming on a Reagan Hickey double to score Priscilla Andrin.

Reese Hickey followed with a RBI single to score her sister for the Mustang early advantage.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the third inning.

Gulia Torres-Boatah reached on an infield error to being in Danielle Bacon followed by a Elisa Marrah single to score Rossalia Iglesis-Lopez.

The Mustangs took the lead for good in the bottom of the third when Reagan Hickey double to bring in Grace Westmoreland for a 3-2 lead.

Mount Vernon added another run later in the inning when Riley Blatt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that allowed Maggie Moore to come home for a 4-2 edge.

In the bottom of the fourth, Reese Hickey doubled down the right field line that nicked the chalk to score Andrin and Westmoreland for a 6-2 lead.

After scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth, the Mustangs brought in three runs in the bottom fo the sixth to bring the run-rule into effect.

Andrin doubled home Lauren Dove and Olivia McDougall followed by a Westmoreland infield single that plated Kennedy Reynolds.

Westmoreland (3-2) picked up the win in the circle for the Mustangs, tossing four innings and allowing two runs while striking out five batters.

Reese Hickey threw two innings of relief, fanning two.

The Mustangs (7-2) are back on the diamond on Tuesday, August 29, traveling to Whitefield Academy for a Region 6-A DI contest.

First pitch against the Wolfpack is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Whitefield Softball Field.
