Cross Country Recap: 10th Annual AT&T Panther Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Cross Country teams were in action over the holiday weekend, competing in the 10th Annual AT&T Panther Invitational hosted by Starrs Mill High School at the Heritage Christian Church Cross Country Course.

The varsity boys finished 20th overall while the varsity girls placed 21st.

Haris Flynn placed in the Top-50 at 47th of 287 runners with a personal best 17:07.

Other Mustangs trimmed time of from previous races: Collin Maher at 18:07 (-47 seconds), Jake Hodges 10:59 (-30 seconds), James Knight 19:33 (-9 seconds), and Tyler Van Name 20:09 (-61 seconds).

In the varsity girls race, multiple Mustangs shaved off time from their past races: Girls Gracie Urban 23:36 (-1 minute, 15 seconds), Audrey Thompson 23:34 (-2 minutes, 16s), Frankie Whelan (25:17 (-1 minute, 28 seconds), and Tess Freyaldenhoven 24:35 (-1 minute, 14 seconds).

"This team is doing the hard work and it's paying off," Head Coach Jennifer Brown said. "This team has bonded faster than my teams in the past and I have to believe that it's because we are all working towards the same goals together."

The Mustangs are back on the course on Saturday, Sept. 10, running in the 9th Annual Milton Cross Country Invitational.

The Varsity Boys race begins at 10:15 a.m. followed by the Varsity Girls at 10:45 a.m. at Milton High School.
