SUWANEE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Competition Cheer team placed first overall in their respective division on Saturday, Sept. 10 in the Lambert High School Cheer Competition.

"It was our first competition of the season and we've already scored one of the highest scores in our school's history," Head Coach Kimberly Exford said. "We've upped our overall difficulty by a lot this season and have several girls that are new to the school and cheerleading!"

Seventeen members (all 13 from varsity and four from junior varsity) competed in the event for the Mustangs.

"It was a challenge this past week as we had to change our choreography within 72 hours of the event," Exford said. "I am proud of our girls for their efforts."

The judges gave the Mustangs a 6-out-of-6 score on their jumps and the tumbling score increased over past years as well.

The Mustangs are back on the court again on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Mill Creek High School Competition Cheer Date.

Performances begin at 10 a.m. in Woodstock, Ga.
