ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team picked up its third straight win on Friday afternoon, Sept. 16, defeating the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans 35-34 on Homecoming 2022 at Ron Hill Field.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 7-0 lead just over two minutes into the first quarter when Sam Nazarian connected with Liam O'Toole for a 93-yard touchdown.

The Trojans answered with 8:52 to play in the first half on a Cameron Person 5-yard rush to even the game at 7-7.

Mount Vernon secured two more scores before halftime, the first coming on a Nazarian 4-yard keeper into the end zone followed by another O'Toole score, this time from nine yards, to push the lead to 21-7 at halftime.

The second half didn't disappoint, as both teams traded explosive plays and scores.

The Trojans pulled within one touchdown with 6:22 to play in the third period on a Person 20-yard rush.

The Mustangs went ahead by two touchdowns again with 2:16 remaining in the third quarter when Nazarian hooked up with Jonathan Gallinaro on a 1-yard pass into the end zone.

The Trojans fought back in the final quarter, tying the game at 28-28 with back-to-back touchdowns from Brayden Smith.

The Mustangs broke the deadlock with 3:53 to play in the game with Nazarian scrambled on a busted play and found Ben Spitz in the end zone for a 22-yard score.

On the ensuing possession, the Trojans received the kickoff and marched down the field to score on another Person rush, this time from 13-yards, with 1:16 to play in the game.

The Trojans elected to go for two but a high snap over Person's head resulted in a failed attempt.

Mount Vernon would run out the clock and secure the win.

Nazarian was 19-for-24 with 316 yards and three touchdowns.

O'Toole paced Mount Vernon in rushing with nine carries for 28 yards.

O'Toole also led the Mustangs in receiving with 137 yards while teammate Gallinaro totaled 101 yards on five catches.

Nathan Webb was a perfect 5-for-5 on PAT's on the day as well.

The Mustangs (3-1) return to the gridiron on Friday, Sept. 23, hosting Athens Academy.

Kickoff against the Spartans in scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at Ron Hill Field.
