CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country teams returned to action on Saturday, Sept. 24, competing in the Winged Foot Classic hosted by the Atlanta Track Club at Sam Smith Park.

For the girls, junior captains Audrey Thompson and Hadley Carey both earned Career PR's.

Carey dropped nearly three minutes off her time from the Bob Blastow Meet back in August while Thompson joined the 22 minute club.

Juniors Emi Lutz and Lauren Lactoaen also shaved close to three minutes off their last race times.

Junior Taylor Gravely dropped close to five minutes from her last race time as well.

Sophomores Frankie Wheelan and Gracie Urban earned career PR's and seniors Hope Holloway, Bryce Fennell, Annabeth Hoyal, and Anna Kate Anderson have shaved minutes off their beginning of the season times.

For the boys, senior captain James Knight joined the 18 minute club for the 2022-23 season.

Also in the 18 minute club are sophomores Collin Maher, and juniors Curran Jolly, Jake Hodges, and captain Charlie Duerr.

In the 19 minute club were juniors Tyler Van Name and Henry Walmsley (a career PR).

Joining the 20 minute club after Saturday's race are freshman Will Docka and seniors Jack Isackson, Josh Cagwin, both with Career PR's, and Aidan Ray. T

In the 21 minute club was sophomore Harris Meriwether, who ran a 21:35, just 25 seconds from his best time of 21:10. Also joining are sophomores Jake Pierce, junior Brayden Ebert, and senior Ben Edwards.

The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday (weather permitting), partaking in the Alexander High School ASICS Cross Country Invitational.

Races are set to start at 8 a.m. in Fairburn, Ga.
