ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Softball team fell 3-2 on Senior Night to the North Atlanta High School Warriors on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 5.
With the game knotted at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning, North Atlanta's Eve Heller singled to center field to score Charlotte Smith to give the Warriors a 3-2 advantage.
Mount Vernon put the game-tying run on first in their final at-bat but North Atlanta's CeCe Smith struck out the side to end the game and Mount Vernon's four-game winning streak.
The Mustangs led 2-0 after the first inning, with the first run coming when Kennedy Reynolds came across on a Warrior infield error.
Grace Westmoreland singled later in the inning to bring in Priscilla Andrin for the early edge.
North Atlanta tied the game at 2-2 in top of the third inning on a Smith double to plate Leela Langston followed by a bases loaded walk to May May McWhirter to bring in Smith.
Westmoreland was charged with the loss in the circle for the Mustangs, tossing seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out 15 batters.
Smith was the victor on the rubber for the Warriors, scattering just three hits, three walks while striking out nine on the day.
Mount Vernon (19-4) is back on the field on Thursday, Oct. 6 hosting the Lovett School for the final regular season home game.
First pitch against the Lions is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Mustang Park.
