Mustangs Close Out Regular Season with Split Against Hebron, Fellowship on Senior Night

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Volleyball team closed out the 2022 regular season on Thursday, Oct. 6 in a tri-match against the Hebron Christian Lions and Fellowship Christian Paladins on Senior NIght at the Upper Campus Gym.

In the first match of the night, the Mustangs fell to the Lions 1-2 [25-23/16-25/12-15].

The Mustangs totaled 11 aces in the match with Sophia Van Name finishing with four and teammate Lauren Bell tallying three.

Mount Vernon had 24 kills with Claire Jacobsen and Bell accounting for six each.

Maggie Sims finished with four kills and a kill percentage of 33.3 percent.

Van Name led the team in assists with 22 while Kate Dawson finished with 15 of Mount Vernon's 40 digs.

In the nightcap against the Paladins, the Mustangs fell behind early by as many as 10 points in the first set but rallied back to win 25-19.

Mount Vernon took the second second set 25-23 to lock up the 2-0 win.

The Mustangs finished with 27 kills on the night, with Bell leading the way with nine.

Claire Jacobsen finished the day with seven kills while Taylor Docka finished with six.

Van Name led the team with all 27 assists while Dawson and Cate Jacobsen totaled 13 and 12 respectively.

The Mustangs are back in action for the Region 6-1A Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 11, taking on winner of the Paideia Pythons in the quarterfinal round.

First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will take place at Mt. Pisgah on Johns Creek, Ga.
