ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team dropped its final home game of the 2022 campaign on Friday afternoon, falling to the Saint Francis Knights 42-13 on Senior Night at Ron Hill Field.
The Mustangs will now gear up for the Class-A DI State Playoffs, set to begin on Friday, Nov. 11.
After leading 7-0 at the end of the first period, the Knights added three more scores in the second quarter to lead 28-0 at intermission.
Saint Francis punched in two more scores in the third quarter push their lead to 42-0.
Mount Vernon got on the board late in the third quarter on a 24-yard touchdown reception by Jonathan Gallinaro from Sam Nazarian to trail 42-6.
The Mustangs added a touchdown in the fourth quarter on another 24-yard score by Gallinaro from Nazarian.
Friday's first round opponent is the Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Brad Akins Field in Bogart, Ga.
