ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team returned to action after the Thanksgiving Break with a resounding 78-31 victory over Mcnair High School at the Upper Campus Gym on Tuesday night, Nov. 29.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 24-11 lead after the first quarter and secured a 13-4 run in the second period to lead 37-15 at halftime.
Mount Vernon outscored Mcnair 31-16 in the second half to take the win.
Four players scored double figures for Mount Vernon: Xavier Shegog (22), Keith Williams (10), Sean Pierce (12) and Gabe Alterman (11).
Williams led the team with 11 rebounds to seal his double-double bid while teammates Simeon Montgomery and Pierce each accounted for three steals.
The Mustangs connected on five 3-pointers throughout the contest.
Mount Vernon was also 10-of-16 from the charity stripe.
Malachi Jackson paced Mcnair in scoring with 18 points on five made 3-pointers.
The Mustangs are now 6-1 on the year, the first time reaching that mark through the first seven games since the 2013-14 season.
Mount Vernon is back on the court on Friday, Dec. 2, traveling to Whitefield Academy to open up Region 6-1A play.
Tip-off against the Wolfpack is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Athletic Center in Mableton, Ga.
