ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Wrestling team opened the season on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 6, competing against the St. Francis Knights on the road.

The Knights, the no. 7 ranked team in Class-A DI, won the match 51-24.

"A few matches could have gone either way but St. Francis got the best of us," Head Coach Derrick Washington said. "We did a lot of good things and have a lot of things to improve on moving forward."

Wins came from senior Michael Hardie (HWT), senior Liam O’Toole (165), junior Micheal Pozzobon (190), and sophomore Walker Warshaw (138).

Senior Sam Worth (157) had a pin in his match as well.

The Mustangs are back on the mat quickly, competing against Mt. Bethel on Wednesday, Dec. 7

Matches are set to start at 5 p.m. in Marietta, Ga.
