ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team picked its second region win of the season on Tuesday night, defeating the Atlanta International School Eagles 93-49 at the Upper Campus Gym.
Mount Vernon jumped out to a 35-5 lead after the first quarter a never looked back.
The Mustangs outscored the Eagles 17-13 in the second period to lead 52-18 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Mustangs fired off a 28-18 run to lead 80-36 after the third quarter.
Both squads battled to a 13-13 tie in the final frame.
The Mustangs had seven players in double figures scoring: Xavier Shegog (25), Trey Scott (14), Pace Bottoms (12), AJ Patterson (10), ShaYah Goba (10), Keith Williams (10) and Sean Pierce (10).
Mount Vernon hit six 3-pointers in Tuesday's contest and finished 15-of-18 from the free throw line.
Patterson paced the squad with seven rebounds while teammates Shegog and Scott each corralled six.
Mount Vernon was active on the defensive end as well, totaling seven blocks in the contest.
The Mustangs (8-2, 2-0 Reg. 6-1A) are back on the court on Friday, Dec. 9 hosting King's Ridge Christian School in a highly anticipated matchup.
The Tigers are ranked no. 3 in Class-A DI while the Mustangs are no. 4 overall.
Tip-off for Friday's region game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Campus Gym.
