Wrestling Advances to Sectionals after Strong Showing at Area Duals

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Wrestling team had a strong showing at the Area Duals at Saint Francis on Saturday, Jan. 7, compiling a 3-2 record on the day to advance to Sectionals.

Mount Vernon's three victories came over Weber (84-0), Mt. Bethel (78-6), and Whitefield (66-12).

The Mustangs dropped to Saint Francis (66-12) and Mount Pisgah (78-6).

"The team started off slow and was battled tested early on," Head Coach Derrick Washington said. "We were able to bounce back and finish the day 3-2 and capture a third place finish to advance to sectionals."

Mount Vernon moves to 9-5 on the season overall after Saturday's action.

The Mustangs return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 14 for the GHSA Sectional round.

Matches are set to begin at 10 a.m. at Commerce High School.
