Mustangs Power Past Weber Rams on Senior Night, 65-40

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys basketball team powered past region foe Weber School on Tuesday night, Jan. 31, defeating the Rams 65-40 on Senior Night at the Upper Campus Gym.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Mustangs pulled ahead 21-16.

Mount Vernon added to the lead after the second period, outscoring the Rams by six to take an 11-point advantage at 38-27 at halftime.

The Mustangs pulled ahead for good in the third quarter, outscoring the Rams 17-9.

Mount Vernon won the fourth period 9-4 as well.

Dennis Scott, III led the Mustangs in scoring with 16 points including four made 3-pointers.

Teammate Xavier Shegog posted double figures with 14 points, 10 of which came in the second half.

The Mustangs capitalized from behind the arc, hitting eight 3-pointers en route to their second straight victory.

Harry Kitey paced the Rams in scoring with a game-high 18 points.

Prior to the game, four seniors from the Varsity Boys Basketball team were recognized on Senior Night: AJ Patterson, Sean Pierce, Kenneth Southall and Keith Williams.

The Mount Vernon Athletic Department sincerely thanks the members of the Class of 2023 for their hard work and dedication over the years.

The Mustangs (15-8, 6-2 Reg. 6-1A DI) are back on the court on Friday, Feb. 3 in a highly anticipated region matchup.

Mount Vernon, ranked no. 2 in Class-A DI, travels to no. 1 ranked Mt. Bethel to take on the Eagles.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Mt. Bethel's Lower Campus.
