Girls and Boys Soccer Sweep Road Matches at Westlake

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Soccer teams were on the pitch on Tuesday, Feb. 7, taking on the Westlake Lions on the road in a non-region matchup.

In the first match of the day, the Varsity Girls (1-0) thumped the Lions 10-0.

Taylor Keller scored the first two goals of the match for the Mustangs to take a commanding 2-0 lead with 22 minutes to play in the first half.

Eden Wasserburg punched in the next two scores to push the Mustangs ahead 4-0.

The final goal of the first half came via Karoline Lundstrom to give Mount Vernon a 5-0 advantage.

Keller recorded a hat trick less than two minutes into the second period with a score.

A minute later, Lundstrom assisted Rachel Reeve to go ahead 7-0.

Lundstrom and Caralee Newsome scored late in the second period while Keller secured her fourth goal of the match with time expiring.

Riley Blatt and Bella Champney each played in goal for the Mustangs to help secure the shutout.

In the boys match, the Mustangs (1-1) picked up a 2-1 win over Westlake.

Moritz Martin scored both goals for Mount Vernon with Jack Allen and Landron Hoyal assisting.

Harrison Estenson had four saves in goal to preserve the win.

Mount Vernon won the shots battle 11-4 as well.

The Mustangs are back on the field on Friday, Feb. 10 hosting Atlanta International School in the first region match of the 2023 season.

Kickoff for the girls match is set for 3:15 p.m. with the boys to follow at 5:15 p.m. at Ron Hill Field.
