Girls and Boys Soccer Gain Region Wins with Shutout of King's RIdge

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Soccer teams were on the pitch on Friday afternoon, March 24, hosting the King's Ridge Christian School Tigers in Region 6-1A play at Ron Hill Field.

The Varsity Girls earned a 10-0 victory while the Varsity Boys cruised to a 7-0 win.

In the Varsity Girls match, the Mustangs poured in six goals in the first half.

Taylor Keller and Karoline Lundstrom netted two scores in the half while Ruby Turner and Stella Olives each had one goal.

Lundstrom also had two assists in the first period while teammates Macy Leask and Olives each had one.

In the second half, the Mustangs added four goals to bring the mercy rule into effect.

Taylor Keller scored on a penalty kick four minutes into the second period to make it a 7-0 Mustang lead.

Keller struck again less than two minutes after the PK for an 8-0 Mustang advantage.

Leask and Elizabeth Hall rounded out the scoring in the second half to secure the win.

Mount Vernon outshot King's Ridge 13-3 on the day.

Riley Blatt and Bella Champney split time in goal, combining for two saves.

In the Varsity Boys match, the Mustangs started slow, leading 1-0 at halftime with a goal from George Walmsley.

But a barrage of goals in the second half proved to be plenty to give the Mustangs the win.

Second half goals came from Moritz Martin (2), Korey Philpot (2), Ian Stukalsky, and Davis Reiger.

Landron Hoyal, Aiden Berry, Jack Allen, Eyob Anteneh and Walmsley all recorded an assist in the winning bid as well.

Mount Vernon controlled the tempo for the majority of the match, outshooting the Tigers 31-4 on the day.

Harrison Estenson finished with two saves in goal for the Mustangs.

The Varsity Girls (7-2, 5-1 Reg. 6-1A DI) and Varsity Boys (5-5, 3-3) are back on the pitch on Monday, March 27, hosting the Weber Rams in another key region match.

Kickoff for the girls match is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. with the boys to follow at 5:45 p.m. at Ron Hill Field.
