Mustangs Snap Skid with 11-1 Victory Over Galloway Scots

ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team snapped a two-game slide by defeating region rival Galloway 11-1 on Wednesday afternoon, March 29 at Mustang Park.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 4-0 victory after the first inning and never relinquished the lead.

Dylan Holbrook doubled home Nate Thomas followed by a Brooks Champney double to bring in Holden Baker and Holbrook.

The final run of the inning came on a passed ball that allowed Champney to score.

Galloway scored its lone run in the top of the second inning on an Elijah Roth single to plate Paul Stout to make it a 4-1 contest.

In the bottom of the second inning, Baker came to the plate and doubled down the first base line to score Nate Thomas and Avery Anderson for a 6-1 Mustang advantage.

After a scoreless third, the Mustangs continued to pad their lead, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Alec Fahlbusch singled home Baker and Thomas followed by a Dawson Stevens single to plate Ethan Pajot and Holbrook.

The final run of the inning came on an Anderson sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Stevens to score.

Mount Vernon retired the side in the top of the fifth to bring the run rule into effect.

Nate Shumway (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.

The righty tossed five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 12 batters.

The Mustangs (6-5, 3-4 Reg. 6-1A DI) are back on the diamond on Thursday, March 30, traveling to Galloway to complete the regular season region series.

First pitch against the Scots is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Warren Road Athletic Complex.
