Girls Soccer Powers Past Mt. Bethel Eagles, 9-1

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls Soccer team picked up its fourth straight win on Thursday afternoon, March 30, defeating the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Eagles 9-1 at Arrow Field in region play.

Mount Vernon erupted in the first half, scoring the first five goals of the match.

Taylor Keller opened the first 15 minutes of the match with a hat trick to give the Mustangs a commanding 3-0 lead with Karoline Lundstrom assisting two of the goals.

With 18:40 to play in the first period, Ruby Turner found Stella Olives on a goal to give the Mustangs a 4-0 advantage.

Mount Vernon's final goal of the half came when Lundstrom assisted Keller on another goal to make it a 5-0 Mustang edge.

Mt. Bethel scored with less than 10 minutes to play in the first period to make it 5-1 Mustangs at halftime.

In the second half, Rachel Reeve booted in a goal in the opening minute of the period for a 6-1 Mount Vernon lead.

Lundstrom got in on the scoring action, punching in the next two goals, with one being assisted by Eden Wassersug.

The final goal of the match game from Macy Leask with 8:41 to play to put Mount Vernon ahead 9-1.

Mount Vernon outshot the Eagles 29-3 on the day and totaled seven corner kicks.

Bella Champney finished with two saves in goal for the Mustangs as well.

Mount Vernon (9-2, 7-1 Reg. 6-1A DI) returns to play on Saturday, April 1, traveling to Mt. Pisgah for another region match.

Kickoff against the Patriots is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Patriot Athletic Campus in Johns Creek, Ga.
