ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team saw its bats come to life at the right time, defeating region rival Galloway 15-0 in four innings on Thursday afternoon, March 30 at the Warren Road Athletic Complex.
In the first inning, Holden Baker smashed a 2-run home run that scored Nate Thomas for an early 2-0 lead.
After a scoreless second, the Mustangs scored five runs in the third to push the lead to 7-0.
Baker doubled home Thomas, Dylan Holbrook homered to bring in Baker and Brook Champney hit a home run to make it 6-0.
The final run of the inning came on a Daniel O'Keefe RBI single that plated Bennett Bogdanchik.
Mount Vernon added eight more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by another Holbrook solo big fly.
Bogdanchik had a RBI double and Thomas had a 2-RBI single to push the lead to 12-0.
Later in the inning, Holbrok singled home Avery Anderson and Rigby Anderson had a double that scored Thomas and Nate Shumway.
Altogether, the Mustangs finished with four home runs and four doubles on the day.
Holbrook totaled five RBI's while teammate Baker finished with three.
Hampton Hudson picked up the win for the Mustangs, tossing four innings with seven strikeouts, no walks and two hits allowed.
Mount Vernon (7-5, 4-4 Reg. 6-1A DI) returns to the field on Friday, March 31, hosting Mt. Pisgah in a key region game.
First pitch against the Patriots is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Mustang Park.
