ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team pushed its winning streak to three games on Friday, March 31, defeating the Mount Pisgah Patriots 8-2 in region play at Mustang Park.

After allowing two runs in the first inning, Mount Vernon closed the game on an 8-0 run to take the win.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning, Mount Vernon got one run back on a Hudson Forrest double that scored Bennett Bogdanchik to cut the deficit in half.

The Mustangs tied the game at 2-2 an inning later when Dylan Holbrook doubled to center field to bring in Nate Thomas.

In the fourth, the Mustangs took a 3-2 lead when Daniel O'Keefe scored on a passed ball.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Mustang turned on the power switch in a major way.

After loading the bases, Holden Baker stepped in the box and smashed a 2-0 pitch over the right field wall for a grand slam that gave the Mustangs a commanding 7-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

A batter later, Holbrook sent the first pitch of the at-bat over the left field fence and off the top of the scoreboard to go back-to-back and give the Mustangs an 8-2 edge.

Thomas struck out the final two batters of the game to seal the Mount Vernon victory.

Holbrook picked up the win on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts, one walk and allowing just one hit.

The Mustangs (8-5, 5-4 Reg. 6-1A DI) return to the field on Tuesday, April 4 for a non-region game against South Cobb.

First pitch against the Eagles is slated for 4:30 p.m. at Mustang Park.
