ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Tennis squad was on the court on Wednesday afternoon, April 5, taking on the Pace Academy Knights in non-region play at the Pace Tennis Courts.

The Mustangs fought their way to victory, taking down the opposition 3-2.

Liam O'Leary took the first set at no. 1 singles 6-1 but the second set proved more difficult, and O'Leary found himself down 5-2.

But O'Leary fought back and won the second set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-4).

Kiefer Hurtado & Nico Tur played the longest match of the day at no. 1 doubles but it proved to be worth the wait.

After an uneventful first set win (6-1), they lost the second set 7-5.

The duo prevailed in a nail biter of a tiebreak, edging out their opponents 12-10 in the third set.

After several difficult no. 3 singles matches the last couple of weeks, Christopher Collins clinched the victory for the Mustangs when he put his opponent away, 6-4, 6-4.

Mount Vernon (15-3) is back on the court on Tuesday, April 11, traveling to Decatur High School for a non-region match.

First serve against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 4 p.m.
