Mustangs Claim Comeback Win Over Woodland High Wolfpack, 15-3

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team picked up its fifth win in as many tries on Wednesday afternoon, April 5, defeating the Woodland High School Wolfpack 15-3 in non-region play.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Mustangs tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second on a Bennett Bogdanchik sacrifice fly followed by an Alec Fahlbusch steal of home.

Mount Vernon took the lead for good in the top of the third, scoring twice to make it a 4-2 game.

Dylan Holbrook doubled to plate Nate Thomas, followed by a Brooks Champney single that brought home Holbrook.

The Mustangs added another run in the fourth inning on an Avery Anderson RBI double that brought in Daniel O'Keefe for a 5-2 game.

In the fifth, Holbrook singled home Holden Baker and later came in on a wild pitch for a 7-2 score.

O'Keefe would also single home Ethan Pajot while Dawson Stevens hit a sacrifice fly to bring in O'Keefe for a 9-2 contest.

Both squads traded runs in the sixth inning for a 10-3 game.

Mount Vernon pushed across five more runs in the top of the seventh to slam the door.

Hampton Hudson picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.

The righty tossed five innings with four strikeouts, two walks, and two runs allowed.

Will Flowers hurled two innings of relief, picking up four strikeouts and allowing one run.

Mount Vernon (10-5) is back on the field on Monday, April 10, traveling to St. Francis for a Region 6-1A contest.

First pitch against the Knights is slated for 5 p.m. in Milton, Ga.
